There are things that I try to store in memory but end up forgetting days later. These are miscellaneous bits of information such as TV program schedules, store names, recipes. But this one particular recipe caught my attention as it was being shown at Discovery Travel and Living last week and the amazing this is, I can still remember the recipe (though I don't know the name of the show). Though this is Thai in origin, it might be something you will be interested in as well, as the ingredients are abundant in our country. This recipe requires a rice cooker.

Sweet camote surprise

About the only time I get to eat sweet potatoes (or more commonly known in the vernacular as kamote or camote) is when we dine at Max's, where the chicken comes with fries from this stuff.
The camote and I have a long history of goodness. When we were younger, my resourceful Nanay sold camote Q (and banana Q... I love the letter Q here) to make ends meet; it would also be our merienda when we visit the store after school; in college we bought camote Q for our afternoon snack when we were working students at SLU; it is a hearty merienda item especially on rainy days. And not only is it affordable, it has health benefits as well!

heaven n' eggs

Sometimes delightful surprises come when you least expect it, and especially when you have a growling stomach. :-)
We were in Glorietta in Makati one night when Pauline said she was going to treat us to dinner. Yipee! We were right outside Heaven n' Eggs so we went right in. I had been assuming that the restaurant was more of a breakfast place with rice meals on the side. How wrong I was. They have quite a delightful selection of Filipino food, including those for adobo! (hence the inclusion in this blog. tee-hee!)
The dining area is brightly-lit, with the baby blues harmonizing with the baby blues and light yellows. Nice theme for dining. Plus, they have these rustic chairs for a homey feel, although I was quite afraid that the chair might give way if I lean on the backrest. What a scene that might create!
There are also a couple of "swings" at the center of the dining area! Too bad these were occupied at the time of our visit.

We ordered kiwi shake, orange jiuce, iced tea, water. I had the bottomless iced tea. It was great, not those sweet varieties. I can see our companion enjoying her kiwi shake too!

A peek at the menu....

Sweet street food from Camiguin

As we alighted the rented jeepney we rented for the day at Camiguin Island, I saw this stand which was selling this crunchy, lumpia-wrapper-like thing that resembled a huge plate. Wanting to try something local, I bought one. Can't remember anymore how much it costs... but when it was taken from the covered display stand, the vendor started squirting sweet, chocolatey stuff on it in a whirl, then handed it to me. I snapped off a small portion and nibbled on it. Crunchy and sweet!
Having consumed it a few minutes later, we went off happily to the waterfalls.
